Workpackage 1: Biological limits & change in ART prevalence
(C) Maddalena Carrai for RIVA Illustrations
We assess how biological factors affect fertility recuperation today and in the future. We estimate sterility at each age in the close past, with or without assisted reproductive technology (ART) use. To evaluate ART success in the close future, we explore help-seeking behaviours and ART prevalence across ages and birth cohorts, and we assess the contribution of technical improvement in ART to its success (egg freezing, donor eggs, surrogacy).
Workpackage 2: Individual factors of fertility & sense of urge in family and reproductive behavior
(C) Maddalena Carrai for RIVA Illustrations
We study the demographic and socio-economic factors of fertility, realisation of fertility intentions and change in fertility intentions across ages, including exploring a new set of factors that can be particularly relevant for later fertility. We monitor individual adaptation to delayed fertility to better implement our scenarios of recuperation.
Workpackage 3: Context – structural and cultural factors in later fertility
(C) Maddalena Carrai for RIVA Illustrations
We investigate country contextual differences that can limit versus support men and women in reaching their potential to have children at older ages and across birth cohorts. Contextual factors include family policies, economic situation, family values and cultural norms, acceptance and accessibility of ART.
Workpackage 4: Fertility recovery at later reproductive ages

We model the barriers and boosters to fertility at later reproductive ages. We explore possible scenarios of fertility recovery in countries with delayed fertility.
